POLITICAL SHENANIGANS

"The People Will Forget"

With all of the stupidity that is going on in Washington these days, you have to scratch your head.  What is it all based upon?  It is based upon: "The People Will Forget."  Let me ask you if you remember...

DO YOU REMEMBER...

...when President Kennedy took office?  The economy was struggling.  After World War II, the economy was booming.  But then it began to slow.  By the time John F. Kennedy took office, it was just plodding along.  He sat down with some top economists and came up with a way to jump-start the economy.  With the help of almost all of his Democratic legislators, and most of the Republicans, he got passed a massive tax reduction, which began an eight year rapid recovery for the economy.  It cost the government money up front, but the increased tax revenues from the thriving economy far outweighed the up-front losses.  Why, then, did the federal deficit continue to grow?  It continued to grow because, instead of paying down the deficit with the new money, Congress created new programs, and spent the money.  The rapid growth lasted for eight years, until Kennedy's successors began to raise taxes.  That slowed the growth of the economy, and taxes could no longer cover the new programs Congress had passed, and therefore the deficit continued to grow.

DO YOU REMEMBER...

...the Democrat turned Republican who took that very same Kennedy/Democrat formula and got it through a Republican Congress with near total opposition from the Democrats.  It was the same plan the Demcrats had produced and used successfully under President Kennedy!  Up front the Reagan plan cost the country 800-billion dollars.  But that was far outweighed by the increased tax collections during the following longest lasting economic spirt the country had seen in its history.  Why didn't the federal deficit decrease?  Because, once again, Congress came up with still more programs funded out of the increased funds.  What ended the longest lasting economic spirt in the country's history?  President Clinton, with the largest tax increase in the history of the country.

DO YOU REMEMBER...

...The big Donald Trump tax cuts?  Of course you do!  Every Democrat voted against the very same formula that the Democrats had come up with back duiring the Kennedy Administration.  Under Kennedy, the Democrats took responsibility for rejuvenating the economy.  Under President Reagan they lashed out against "taking from the poor and middle class and giving to the rich."  It was the same formula they had produced!  Under President Trump they lashed out against "taking from the poor and middle class and giving to the rich."  It was the same formula they, themselves, had produced!

By-the-way: Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who is running for President in 2020, said of the Trump tax cuts, "Such cuts (referring to the Reagan cuts) did not work in the past, and neither will these."  Maybe that's just rhetoric.  But if she really believes that, does she really have enough knowledge to be President - or for that matter, even a Senator.

DO YOU REMEMBER...

...The last time we had a government shutdown.  Actually, it has happened rather regularly throughout our modern history.  Prior to this last one, which became the longest in American history, the longest had been 21 days under President Bill Clinton.  It was a dispute over government funding.  Do you remember the fifth longest in history?  It too, like all other shut downs, was over government funding.  It happened in 2013.  Who was the President?  Barak Obama!  How quickly we forget.

DO YOU REMEMBER...

...All of the hubbub over the wall between the United States and Mexico proposed by President Trump?  Of course you do.  It's going on right now.  On the day Nancy Pelosi was sworn in as Speaker of the House (third in line for President), she said that the wall was "immoral and un-American."  When you watch the TV news reports, they show you four big walls of different types with space between them.  They were built by different companies as demonstrations of what the wall might look like.  But, after showing those four samples, the cameras usually show a high wall with steel slats that you can look through.  Where did that wall come from?  There is over 600 miles of high walls built during the Clinton and Obama Administrations, with both presidents insisting that the wall was absolutely necessary.  And guess who voted for the wall under both administrations.  None other than Nancy Pelosi, who now says the wall is "immoral and un-American.

And, by-the-way: There is over 2,000 miles of border between the United States and Mexico.  There are walls near all of the border crossing points.  There is the 600 miles of wall built by Presidents Clinton and Obama.  There are large portions of the border which have no fence, and not so much as a sign to tell a person that they have actually passed into another country; and other vast areas which have only a short barbed wire fence exactly the same as farmers use to keep their cattle in the pasture.  President Trump is proposing 5.6-billion dollars to add another 200 miles to the 600 miles his predecessors have built.  His proposal is to build those sections at the most strategic places along the border.  What he got was funding for 55 miles.

DO YOU REMEMBER...

...all of the negative news reports over the thousands of illegal immigrant families that have been separated at the border by border agents?  Of course you do.  It has been in the news, and reported very negatively.  But did you know that far more children (nearly double the number) were separated from their families under the Obama Administration than have been during the same time period (the first two years of their terms) under the Trump Administration.  The news media never reported a word.  I think the word "hypocrites" would apply here.

DO YOU REMEMBER...

...that nearly three times as many undocumented immigrants were deported during the first two years of the Obama Administration than were deported during the first two years of the Trump Administration; but because of the media's dislike for Donald Trump, they go overboard looking for things of which to accuse him.  Let me be fair.  Donald Trump has brought this dislike on himself, with his constant accusations and name calling against the media; and by his constant "quoting" of "facts and figures" which turn out not to be true.  But the point is: when election time comes up in 2020...

WILL WE REMEMBER?

                          PROBABLY NOT!
